Railfuture News Snippets 375 - 30/06/2024

In June 2024, the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) authorised a new bus service between Chatteris, Manea, Christchurch and Wisbech, co-ordinated with train times at Manea. Services will commence later in the year.

The Whitwell & Reepham Railway will be holding a Summer Craft Fair (woth plenty of stalls) from 10:00-16:00 on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August 2024. They will be running steam rides on both days with a limited number of 30 Minute Steam Driver Experiences available.

The New Civil Engineer picked up on Railfuture East Anglia's press release about the considerable support that it had received from general election candidates in West Suffolk to its proposal to reinstate a rail link to Haverhill. See article.

The East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) is advancing with further train tests taking place. In the early hours of Sunday 2nd June 2024, a Great Northern Class 717 ran in test conditions between Welwyn Garden City and Hitchin using European Train Control System (ETCS), which sends signalling information direct to a computer screen in the driver's cab. This test was part of the early stages of an ongoing process to prove that the trains — already fitted with the necessary on-board technology — work with the new digital signalling infrastructure on this section of the East Coast Main Line (ECML). Testing is taking place overnight and at weekends to minimise disruption to passengers as much as possible. The first 'in service' passenger and freight digital signalling operations expected to start in mid-2025, once the testing process has been fully completed. See news story.
