Welcome to Yorkshire!
The Yorkshire Branch of Railfuture covers railways in the traditional county of Yorkshire and, where appropriate, over the border into adjacent counties. We liaise closely with our Railfuture colleagues in the neighbouring North East, North West, East Midlands and Lincolnshire branches. We welcome members from all Railfuture branches to attend our in-person or online branch fixtures.The branch seeks to maintain a good working relationship with elected representatives and governing bodies in the region, as well as train operators that serve the area and the wider railway industry.

We are delighted to be welcoming Councillor Peter Kilbane, Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Transport in the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. Peter is also the Deputy Leader of City of York Council with responsibility for Economy and Culture.
Peter will be discussing the key role that the newly-formed Combined Authority will take in the development of regional and long-distance rail services. We hope to hear about important issues such as the new East Coast Main Line timetable from December 2025, aspirations for the Scarborough Line and potential service enhancements arising from Trans Pennine Route Upgrade. We anticipate this will be an extremely interesting and insightful presentation, after which Peter will take questions from the Railfuture audience.
The second part of our meeting will afford the opportunity to discuss and hear views on recent developments and the key issues affecting railways in our region. Reports of the activities of Yorkshire Branch Committee Members will also be presented. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Northern Trains Managing Director, Tricia Williams, has kindly agreed to take time out of her busy schedule to speak to the Northern branches of Railfuture at our Joint Webinar on 4 April. Tricia will be discussing the challenges facing rail in the North of England and outlining how Northern is rising to meet those challenges.
We hope to hear more about Northern’s rolling stock replacement plans and how Northern will adapt to the new railway structure under Great British Railways. Following her presentation, Tricia will take questions from the Railfuture audience.

Our Branch Meeting and AGM will take place in Leeds on Saturday 10th May. We are delighted that Tim Lawrence of the WYCA Mass Rapid Transit Team has agreed to speak to the meeting. We look forward to hearing about the West Yorkshire MRT project and how plans are progressing. Tim will then take questions from the Railfuture audience.

Railfuture have launched a Northern Powerhouse campaign for improved services that can be achieved now within current constraints, and that can be achieved in future through a coordinated investment programme, to turn the great Northern cities of Liverpool, Preston, Manchester, Sheffield, Bradford, Leeds and Hull into a single strategic economic entity linked by a fast high capacity rail network to realise the economic potential of the region as a global powerhouse.Yorkshire rail user groups
