Major Improvements Announced for Spalding Station

East Midlands trains have announced major improvements to the buildings at Spalding station with work set to begin this month. The project is scheduled to last six weeks, but no passenger disruption is anticipated.

Working alongside the Railway Heritage Trust and Network Rail, the works will improve the appearance of the Grade II listed station buildings, reinstating currently boarded-up windows, and restoring floorboards and ceilings to their former glory. There will be potential for retail units to be located in the station buildings in the future.

Later in the year Network Rail will commence a £2.5 million investment in improved accessibility at the station. This will include the installation of passenger lifts to provide step-free access to platform two, whilst work will also be undertaken to install tactile paving, improved lighting, and additional CCTV coverage. Scheduled to begin this autumn, it’s hoped to complete in early spring 2020.
