  • Geoff Cook of Network Rail on Edinburgh-Glasgow improvement scheme

  • David Spaven and Bill Jamieson on Borders Rail

Stirling is an important rail gateway to the Scottish Highlands, with trains from Glasgow and Edinburgh converging at its spacious handsome station.

It is also an interesting historic city, dominated by its castle, and a good centre from which to explore this scenic area. Stirling has a modern shopping centre close to the Golden Lion Hotel, our conference venue, as well as specialist shops, an art gallery and museums.

The line from Stirling to Alloa (capital of Clackmannanshire, Britain's smallest county) was reopened to passengers in May 2008 and has been very successful.
