East Anglia St Neots

East West Rail station at St Neots

A public consultation on East West Rail is ongoing – public feedback has previously led to improvements to the plans, so responding is the most effective way to show your support.

  1. Go to eastwestrail.co.uk/consultation/consultation2026
  2. You can respond online or return the form via email or freepost.
  3. Under ‘Other Feedback’ (Question 17) on the feedback form, explain that you support an additional station serving St Neots directly. You can mention:

  • the benefits outlined in the list at the end of the article below
  • the impractical distance to Tempsford station
  • the risk of St Neots being left behind

You can also contact your local councillors:

  • Local authorities have supported arguments for this station and expressing your support directly is a great way to boost the campaign.

East West Rail (EWR) is building a new railway between Bedford and Cambridge. This will connect Oxford, Cambridge and towns and cities in between with fast, frequent trains.

The new line will skirt the eastern edge of St Neots by just a few hundred metres – but no station is planned. This would make St Neots the largest town on the route with no direct access to EWR trains, losing out on the benefits the new railway will bring to other areas.
The closest EWR station would be at Tempsford – over an hour’s walk away and inconvenient to drive to for daily users.
St Neots must not be left out – an additional station is needed
A station could be built between the A428 and A421, south of Tithe Farm Roundabout, providing a direct link into EWR for the town.
Local authorities have already recognised the risk of leaving out St Neots from the plans; now we need your support to make sure St Neots is included.

The benefits this station would bring:

-    faster and more frequent links to Bedford and Cambridge
-    direct access to jobs, colleges, healthcare and leisure
-    less traffic on the A428/A421 corridor
-    improved public transport to support the growing areas of Wintringham and Loves Farm
-    flexibility for commuters with more options for travel times
-    connections to the wider rail network – destinations across Britain reachable with a single change
-    easy access for cars, buses and pedestrians
