Railfuture is campaigning for a programme of incremental improvements to the route between Salisbury and Exeter to increase service frequency and its capacity as a diversionary alternative to the Great Western route. See our proposal for Salisbury to Exeter Route Capacity Enhancements.
See too our work to promote a new station to serve Welborne Garden Village near Fareham, with our campaign leaflet.
Our other objectives are:
- Reintroduce suitable rolling stock to all main line routes
- Strengthen trains which suffer overcrowding
- Speed up services where practicable (for instance, remove 'buffer' time)
- Upgrade service on Portsmouth-Cardiff route to frequent inter-city standard
- Oppose ticket office closures
- Faster trains on the Alton line
- Newer trains and half-hourly service on Island Line
- Support Community Rail Partnerships including increased frequency on 'Heart of Wessex' line
Annual General Meetings
The postponed 2018 AGM of Railfuture Wessex Branch was held on Saturday 7th April at Brockenhurst Village Hall, Highwood Rd, SO42 7RY, just a 5 min walk from Brockenhurst station. The meeting started at 11:00am.
We couldn’t get a guest speaker at short notice, but we assembled some interesting video presentations about recent rail developments in the South. Also we had the usual review of our campaigns and activities over the past year, with time to discuss priorities for the year ahead.
