Rail campaigners welcome u-turn on Interrail

The campaign group Railfuture has welcomed the reversal of a decision to leave the Interrail scheme. “We were appalled at the Rail Delivery Group’s unilateral decision to pull out of Interrail and Eurail without prior consultation” said chairman Chris Page.. “The rail industry attracts huge government funds but the Rail Delivery Group, as a trade body, has to reconcile the views of its members rather than take the national interest.”

“We’re pleased that the new Secretary of State has reversed this decision so quickly in response to concerns raised by many interested parties who, like Railfuture, take a more strategic view on the benefits of Britain’s railways to tourism and the economy.”

The revised decision has also been welcomed by the European Passenger Federation, of which Railfuture is a member.
