Highland Railfreight at Corrour Station: The West Highland Line linking Glasgow with Oban, Fort William and Mallaig carries railfreight all year round whatever the weather.  More investment in freight is needed to reduce the environmental impact of road transport.


I've seen the future and it works. A TGV capable of 280kph stands on a wet morning waiting to make the journey to Paris, on part of the extensive network linking European cities, which Britain must be part of.


This footpath at Eskbank is now part of the construction site which will become the Borders Railway in 2015, linking Tweedbank with Edinburgh to provide increased opportunity for the local communities.  Campaigns started when the line closed in 1969!

After campaigns by local groups, Fishguard acquired five extra daily trains in 2011. In spring 2012, Fishguard and Goodwick station (pictured) was re-opened. Trial operation has proved so succesful that the WAG has just extended funding until 2018.

This is a new platform, that took less than a year to be built, from conception to design. It is at Cambridge. It is needed because the platform capacity, at Cambridge, was getting so short. Its relelevance to Railfuture is that it is a way of making more passengers come onto "our" railway, and allowing them not to use alternative means, which would be harmful to the environment.


Twickenham Railway station is being redeveloped.  By May 2015, in time for the rugby tournament, platforms will be re surfaced, toilets refurbished and lifts installed for access platform to ticket office. Platform two will be expanded for rugby crowds, to make them flow more easily.


Do the Metropolitan Line and Oyster extend to Banbury?  Not yet, but Railfuture campaigns for new trains to increase capacity, new services to increase journey opportunities, and smartcards to make buying your ticket simpler and easier


Lifeline: This service is able to reach Harlech, its temporary destination, owing to Network Rail's unsung and massive effort of rebuilding the sea wall at Llanaber, a mile or so north of Barmouth. The train service had been curtailed at Barmouth since the winter storms. The trains along this railway has a vital part to play in sustaining the tourist industry along Cardigan Bay


An Abelio Greater Anglia service awaits departure from one of the two additional bi-directional platform lines opened at Peterborough in 2014.These platforms allow greater operational flexibility , and the footbridge has new lifts for the convenience of passengers.


New class 68 No 68004 is seen working from Norwich to Doncaster (seen here at Peterborough) while 66529 brings an empty stone train from March, bound for Mount Sorrel.


It depicts 318257 with a train from Motherwell at the newly electrified Cumbernauld station. The electrification of lines around Glasgow, including to Whifflet, Cumbernauld and Paisley Canal will increase capacity, reduce air pollution and release diesel units for use elsewhere on the network.


Railfuture campaigns for expansion of the rail network to increase capacity.  The soaring steel supports of the passenger deck at the new Reading station reflect the soaring demand for rail travel which the development will accommodate


Alongside the new stainless steel clad New Street station, tracks are being laid to extend Midland Metro into the heart of Birmingham.  Railfuture campaigns for light rail and integrated transport solutions which offer new journey opportunities for economic growth

Railfuture campaigns for increased capacity of both trains and stations to make travelling by train a good experience.  There is no congestion on the great expanse of the passenger deck above the platforms at the new Reading station


A 'Sprinter' arrives at Ridgmont, Bedfordshire, in April 2014. A delightful new tea room and heritage centre at this station add to the attraction of travelling on this line which will eventually be electrified as part of the 'Electric Spine'.


This Swiss railway station, on a street running length of the Rhatischebahn, doubles as a bus stop. We need to reintroduce local stopping trains using tram/trains if public transport is to compete with the car
