In 2000 Steve was appointed a Railfuture vice president. At the time he said: "Since joining the old Railway Development Society in 1974 and subsequently having been a member of its successors, I served my 'apprenticeship' with the East Anglian branch from 1976 to 1988 including 10 years as chairman.

"On a national level, I served on the executive from 1978 to 2000 including 10 years as national chairman until ill health forced early retirement.

"During this time, I served as secretary to the freight committee for 21 years, helped set up South East Lincolnshire Travellers Association as a rail user group, director of Transport 2000 (since renamed Campaign for Better Transport) for four years as well as being involved in a number of public inquiries both local and national.

"I have therefore supported our work and campaigns on a wide range of matters over the years."

Sadly Steve died in April 2016.
