This picture shows the first stages of a new roof being fitted at St Pancras International station.

The new station will be a complete contrast to the existing St Pancras roof which was built in Victorian times.

The new enlarged station will, in four years time, be able to cope not only with inter-city high speed trains but also international Eurostar trains, running in from the Channel Tunnel high-speed rail link, also now under construction.

Two years from now, another new roof will be built on the other side of the existing station.

St Pancras International will eventually have 13 platforms, with existing platforms doubled in length for Eurostar trains. New platforms will be constructed for services using the Midland main line and for future high-speed domestic services to Kent.
