Attention to detail: The new train has a power supply for laptop or mobile phone, unlike the new trains being built by Siemens for the mainly commuter Thameslink route which also serves Gatwick and Luton airports

The newest inter-city train in Europe was launched in Paris last week (13 June 2014).

The new Omneo Premium is a double decker train so is unlikely to operate in Britain.

Bombardier said it was inspired by French standards of luxury to produce an elegant interior design with reclining seats and a power supply for laptop or mobile phone.

The Omneo can run at 125mph and carry 400 to 475 people, depending on the seating layout. It is a variant of Bombardier’s 2N regional train which will operate on many lines in France.

“The Omneo Premium offers a new travel experience in tune with contemporary lifestyle demands," said Jean Berge, president of Bombardier Transportation France.

Bombardier makes TurboStar, ElectroStar trains in Derby and is currently supplying new trains for the London Underground.

Bombardier says the self-regulating air conditioning system and low noise and vibration levels contribute to a quiet atmosphere ideally suited for inter-city services.
