Railfuture Ltd's AGM 2024 took place in Edinburgh.
Our reason for the AGM returning to Edinburgh is for members to hear about and experience some of the exciting improvements to rail-based transport systems in or nearby Edinburgh since our last AGM here in 2018.
The Edinburgh Trams extension opened on 7 June 2023. It runs from St Andrew Square (100 metres from the entrance to Waverley station on Princes Street) to Leith and Newhaven. The Ocean Terminal stop is where you can visit the Royal Yacht Britannia.
The tram has seen some great successes since the extension, helped in particular by Taylor Swift's concerts over three nights (see article).
The other exciting news is the rebuilding of the railway line to Leven, which reopened on Sunday 2 June 2024.
Railfuture has arranged visits to both the tram extension and Leven, with a suggested restaurant for an evening meal at each location.
And if you still haven't been on the Borders Railway down to Tweedback, thats another reason for you to visit Edinburgh.
If you fancy travelling over to Glasgow, then you may be able to travel on some of the new Subway trains built by Stadler, although they will not be running in driverless mode for a while yet.
