Lancashire rail company to receive national award tomorrow

Carnforth-based West Coast Railway Co is being rewarded for its work in providing an emergency summer service when Northern couldn’t. Pat Marshall, Director of West Coast Railways will be presented with the Railfuture Judges’ Special Award at a ceremony tomorrow, in recognition of its success in running ‘The Lakelander’ special service betweeen Oxenholme and Windermere. Also present will be Tim Farron, the MP for Westmorland & Lonsdale which includes the Windermere branch. The framed certificate will be presented by Railfuture director Roger Blake, who organised the awards. “The judges were so impressed that they decided to make a Special Award to West Coast Railways” he said. “They were recognised for launching their special loco-hauled ‘Lakelander’ service for Windermere. In a couple of weeks last June when Northern withdrew all their services, they carried 17,000 passengers in just that fortnight.” The ceremony will take place tomorrow (Friday 18th January 2019) in Carnforth at the company's HQ at 10.30 am.
