Press release 4th October 2014

Meet the women who run our railways

Railfuture's annual conference, with an all-female platform of speakers from the very top of the rail industry, will be held on 1st November in London. "There's no shortage of women in very senior positions in the rail industry" said conference organiser Chris Fribbins "so the challenge for us was to narrow down our choice of speakers for the conference.”

“The railways have seen a rapid growth in recent years and more is expected in the future. How did the rail industry manage this, what are the future expectations and how will those challenges be met? – hence the theme of this year's conference: ‘On track for success, the challenges ahead’. "

In addition to video presentations from Baroness Kramer, Minister of State for Transport and Isabel Dedring, Deputy Chair of Transport for London, the conference will hear from Karen Boswell of East Coast, Fiona Dolman from Network Rail, Anna Matthews from Delta Rail, Sharon Hedges from Passenger Focus, Jenni Borg from the Department for Transport and Stefanie Browne from RAIL Magazine .

"It's one of a series of conferences Railfuture holds with senior representatives of the rail industry present.  You can hear exactly how they are tackling problems, how the industry works and how they are rising to the challenge.  But it's a two-way street - this also an opportunity to discuss issues and influence the rail industry."

The conference will see the presentation of the third annual Rail User Group awards, judged by Railfuture Vice-Presidents such as Adrian Shooter, Chris Green, Ian Brown, Roger Ford, and Barry Doe.  Railfuture's President Christian Wolmar will announce the winners and present the awards.

The conference will be held at the University of Westminster's Large Lecture Theatre.  Everyone is welcome to attend, and the conference fee is £35. Booking is online at www.railfuture.org.uk/conferences
