Annual general meeting

The Railway Development Society Ltd (the official name of Railfuture) will hold its next Annual General Meeting on Saturday 10 May 2008. Doors open 10am. AGM starts at 11am. Finish around 5pm. Venue The AGM is staged in a different part of the country each year reflecting Railfuture's membership throughout the UK. Recent AGMs have been in Preston (2007), Swindon (2006), Peterborough (2005), Nottingham, Newcastle and Croydon (2000). The 2008 is being held in Coventry at Warwick Road United Reformed Church, Warwick Row, Coventry CV1 1EX. As usual the venue is within 15 minutes walk from the railway station. Speakers Railfuture is delighted to announce that the AGM will be opened by The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor Dave Batten. The first speaker will be First Group PLC's Jim Morgan, who as Chairman of the ATOC Rail Planning Forum will outline some of the work that ATOC has been doing recently and their future proposals for the rail industry. He will be followed by Ian Walmsley of Porterbrook Leasing, who have financed the use of Parry People Movers on the Stourbridge town branch. He is the Porterbrook engineer originally responsible for coordinating project Hayabusa, and is likely to talk about ways of reducing Co2 emissions. Directions to Venue From Coventry station walk directly across Station Square, heading for the City Centre. Follow the roadway towards the Inner Ring Road which can be crossed by a subway. Keep straight ahead and on the far side of the Ring Road veer right taling a pedestrian underpass labelled Greyfriars Road. The Warwick Road Church Centre is about 30 metres beyond on the left. The nearest Car Parks are the Barracks or City Arcade, both to the rear of the venue, but note that all central Coventry car parks charge £7.00 for 6 hours. A formal notice of the AGM is mailed to Railfuture members with Railwatch in late February 2008. Main Business In addition to the usual activities associated with an AGM, such as approving the annual accounts *, the results of the Elections to the Board of Directors will also be announced. All members are eligible to vote and to stand. Note: accounts for both 2006 and 2007 are proposed for approval at this 2008 AGM. The 2007 AGM minutes will be proposed for approval. Summary of the 2007 AGM The 2007 AGM was held on Saturday 12 May 2007 at Lancashire County Hall in Preston. The booked speaker was Mr Richard Watts, Lancashire County Council Transport Officer to talk about “Potential future developments on the rail network in Lancashire”. Unfortunately he had to cancel at the last minute and was replaced by Railfuture vice chairman Jerry Alderson who gave a presentation on smart-card ticketing focusing on Oyster and Mobile Phone tickets. The 2007 AGM voted to approve changes to the Articles of Association to improve the manageability of the Society. They can be downloaded from RDS Ltd Articles of Association (PDF format - 128KB). Conferences Recently Staged by Railfuture Railfuture's Reopenings Conference Summer Conference was held on Saturday 23 June 2007 in Glasgow.
