RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE
Bittern Line resignalling is complete but minor problem remains

Keywords: [BitternLine]

It is 15 months since the £12 million signalling upgrade began but there is still a problem. The signal box at Wroxham station is obscuring the drivers' vision, and has forced Railtrack to cut the speed limit from 40 to 30 mph on the stretch to avoid "confusion". The box cannot be demolished because it is a listed building. There have been numerous problems since the signalling was completed. On Wednesday 28th June 2000 trains were replaced by buses for most of the day while signalling problems were sorted out.

Improvements at March station for disabled access

Keywords: [MarchStation]

Railtrack is to remodel the track layout at March in November 2000, in a scheme costing in excess of £2m. The track through the old Platform 3 is to be lifted, with March East Junction being moved to the west end of the Ely-bound platform. This will enable an access route for the disabled to be created to the Ely-bound platform from Elm Road. Presently, disabled passengers arriving from Peterborough, or wishing to travel to Ely and beyond, have to travel to either Ely or Peterborough first as the only access to the Ely-bound platform is via the footbridge (or, when the station is staffed, via a barrow crossing).

RAIL ROUTES
